OnePlus Could Be Developing a New Smartwatch Featuring Snapdragon W5 Gen 1

OnePlus has been making waves with its upcoming smartphone releases, including the OnePlus Open and the OnePlus 12. However, notably absent from their product lineup has been a fully-fledged smartwatch. While there is the original OnePlus Watch and a few fitness trackers, they all run on a basic operating system lacking its own dedicated app store. It seems that OnePlus might be changing this landscape, as leaks about their next smartwatch have surfaced, suggesting it could be a genuine smartwatch this time.

A prominent code sleuth and leaker, @realMlgmXyysd, has disclosed specifications for an upcoming smartwatch developed by OPLUS, the parent investor group that encompasses OnePlus, OPPO, and Realme. This smartwatch is expected to potentially take the form of a OnePlus Watch and an OPPO Watch.

According to the leaks, OPLUS is currently working on a smartwatch with the codename “star.” It may have multiple variants, including OWW231 for the Chinese market, OWWE231 for the global market, and OPWWE231 for the global market under the OnePlus brand.

This OnePlus smartwatch is rumored to feature a circular display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform, complemented by the BES 2700 co-processor to efficiently manage low-power operations. The available color options are Black and White, with the hex code for the white variant featuring a subtle pastel blue hue at a lower alpha.

Regarding the operating system, the Chinese variant is said to run on ColorOS for Watch 6.0, based on Android 11 Go. However, it’s more likely that the global version of the smartwatch will adopt Google’s dedicated Wear OS platform, especially if it indeed utilizes the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor.

The smartwatch’s hardware is expected to include two operation buttons, a crown, and a barometer, enabling various features such as ECG, Always On Display, fist clench gestures, eSIM support, blood oxygen measurement, stress tracking, sleep tracking, and workout monitoring.

Some additional features mentioned in the leaks include ColorOS 14 Sound, RTOS WeChat, and WeChat Pay. However, it’s presumed that these features will primarily cater to the Chinese market.

Additionally, the leaker hints at the existence of a round-shaped OPPO Watch 4 Pro running Wear OS, which is destined for the international market.

The presence of the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor and eSIM support has raised expectations for the OnePlus smartwatch. If these details prove accurate, consumers can look forward to another Android smartwatch option, competing with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series and the Google Pixel Watch 2. Notably, OPPO recently launched the OPPO Watch 4 Pro (with a square shape) in China, sharing similar specifications, giving hope for an international release.
